Nanki-Otokoyama-Yaki

Nanki-Otokoyama-Yaki is originated from Harutomi Tokugawa, the tenth Lord of the Kishu domain, as the dominant kiln of the domain. In 1827, Sakiyama Rihe opened the kiln under the full support of the Kisyu Domain at that time. It is representative ceramics of Kisyu. There was a large-scale ascending kiln and we had the highest production volume in Kisyu. A lot of daily miscellaneous goods for commons were produced and those were shipped by ship all over the country. It was damaged by the tsunami in 1854 but revived by the support of Hamaguchi Goryo. It had been fired ceramics for more than 50 years until 1878. The kiln was located on the southern side of the small hill (Otokoyama) east of Hiro Hachiman-jinja Shrine, and it was quite large enough that the Otokoyamayaki Museum that opened in 1992 entered the site.
