Memorial monument for drowned people

It is a stone monument in the Hiromura Seawall in front of the Hirogawa Town Taikyu junior high school. The letter of “Namu Amida Butsu” by Tokuhon-shonin being carved large on the front, “March 1852 (year of the Rat)” is written on the side, “For memorial of drowned people Hiromura village (current Hirogawa Town)” is written on the other side. The Ansei’s tsunami occurred 2 years later, so it seems to be thought that it was built to hold memorial services for the villagers who died in the great tsunami in 1707, it may be possible that to add the letters of the memorial of drowned people when the Hiromura Seawall was established.
