The emperor’s stone wall

It is the stone wall with a length of about 218 meters and a root width of about 36 meters that’s built by Kisyu’s first lord, Tokugawa Yorinobu in between 1661 to 1673. In addition to being a loading and unloading area for loads, it also serves as a defensive facility to prevent waves. In 1707, it collapsed due to the great earthquake-tsunami of Hoei. It was rebuilt for about 10 years from 1793 to 1802. However, the tsunami in 1854 overcame the emperor’s stone wall and the stone embankment built by Hatakeyama family in the early 15th century, and attacked Hiromura village (current Hirogawa Town).
