A tombstone of Hamaguchi Goryo is at the southeastern foot of Mt. Tanno. Goryo was born in Hiromura village (current Hirogawa Town) on 15 June and made numerous accomplishments such as relief of villagers during the tsunami in 1854 and construction of the Hiromura Seawall. He died of illness in New York during a tour of Europe and the USA in 1885. It is carved as “Tomb of Hamaguchi Goryo” in the front, “On 21st April 1885 the 8th generation Gihe built” on the side.
